Kelcie's Point of View

Many people ask us how Kelcie has responded to the adoption.  So, we thought we would let her share in her own words what she thinks about her trip to Russia and her baby brother.

"When we went to Russia on the first trip, and the caregiver brought out Sean, he was covered from head to toe in pink, including a knit pink pom-pom hat.  Luckily, we took pictures.  I know that when he gets married, I will be showing those pictures. On that first visit, Sean would not stop smiling.  Although he didn’t talk much then, he babbles his head off now.

The orphanage was different than I expected it to be.  From the outside it looked somewhat rundown, but on the inside it was much nicer in my opinion.  It was clean and organized.  We mainly saw the observation room where we played with Sean.  We were not allowed to see his living quarters.

My favorite part about going to Russia was going to the Moscow Flea Market because everything there was handmade.  I got a traditional Russian porcelain doll which I named Tatiana.  She was dressed in purple clothes.  On the second trip, my parents brought me another Russian doll, only this one was dressed in red.  I named her Natasha.

It was fun to see a different country’s culture.  Russia was very different from the United States because there were a lot more people walking around.  Their cars were different styles than ours.  Many of the women wore very pointy and high-heeled shoes.

Even though the only memories I have of Russia are my dolls and pictures, one day I plan to go back, maybe even with Sean, and adopt a child of my own."
